DVLA is an executive agency of the Department for Transport. The prime purpose of DVLA is to maintain an accurate record of all those who are entitled to drive various types of vehicles, together with a register of all vehicles entitled to use public roads. These registers enable DVLA to support road safety, crime prevention and an improved environment by keeping drivers and vehicles without entitlement off the road. The drivers medical database plays an important role in support of road safety.
